Abstract: In inverse problems one is concerned with the inversion of an operator T between Banach spaces. Due to the ill-posedness of this problem in many cases of interest, there is a need for so-called regularization where the goal is to find a well-posed problem which approximates the inversion of T. In recent years machine learning methods using convolutional neural networks (CNN) have become increasingly popular due to their practical performance. Their main disadvantages, however, are the need for large amounts of training data and a lack of theoretical understanding. In this talk we introduce and analyze a novel CNN-based regularization method, which overcomes both of these issues.
